As the eat at home trend has continued into the summer, food manufacturers that primarily supply grocery stores are still struggling to keep up with the increased demand. In a recent article in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, Mark Reilly writes that General Mills is seeking to form new partnerships with contract manufacturers to help produce their products. In the most recent quarter, the Company announced that its Meals and Baking sector sales rose 75 percent, while its Cereal division’s sales were up 26 percent. General Mills has historically outsourced around 30 percent of its manufacturing of North American products but will be looking to expand that number in the coming weeks. By utilizing contract manufacturers, the Company will be able to scale production up and down much quicker and in a more cost-effective way than building additional plants.
