The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index is a leading economic indicator for a nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas. The Index is primarily focused on the manufacturing sector and is based on surveys of purchasing managers. In a recent Star Tribune article, Kavita Kumar details the July report that finally saw Minnesota return to growth. The report indicated that while employment was still down, the sector was starting to see strong demand again. Manufacturing also showed continued improvements at the national level according to a July ISM report. Chairman of the ISM business survey committee, Timothy Fiore was quoted in the article saying “We’re growing again from absolutely historically low level we saw in April. There’s no reason why that growth shouldn’t continue. The question is at what rate.”
