According to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), during the month of October, US manufacturing companies grew at their fastest pace since the start of the pandemic. After seeing a sharp decline in manufacturing activity at the outset of the pandemic, the ISM has reported continually improving manufacturing numbers with October now showing the best numbers yet. In a recent MarketWatch article written by Jeffry Bartash, a senior executive at a machinery manufacturer was quoted saying “business is almost back to normal levels; however, customers are still being cautious with capital spending.” Gauges for new orders, production, and employment were all up during the month, which is a positive sign for the US economy.
