JBS SA, the world’s largest meat producer, recently announced they will be entering the fish market through the acquisition of Huon Aquaculture Group. Huon is an Australian salmon producer and is the second largest salmon farming operation in Australia producing 35,000 tons of fish per year.
The deal was announced for US $314 million for 100% of the company. This deal comes as the global demand for fish has been increasing at a faster pace than beef, pork, or chicken. This area of the market is attracting other large players in the food industry such as Cargill Inc. and is expected to see further M&A activity.
Quazar Capital was not involved in this transaction.
