The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index, which measures manufacturing industry performance based on a monthly survey of supply managers, recently showed strong December growth in Minnesota. When the index reading is above 50 that signals a potential expansion in the coming months while a number below 50 indicates a potential deceleration in business.
In December, the Index rose to 70.2 for Minnesota which is up over November’s 65.1 reading. The overall index which includes nine states has been up 19 of last 20 months since the index plummeted in April of 2020. While still not at pre-pandemic employment numbers, Minnesota is showing that it is much closer to returning to that level than many of its surrounding states.
