03/17/2022: Cybersecurity: Record Year of M&A?

The cybersecurity sector has already been experiencing heavy involvement only three months into the new year, as large firms such as Google, Darktrace, and Cloudflare have all announced deals early on in 2022. So far, more than two dozen deals have been announced, with that number expected to increase given the current uptick in dealmaking.

Google has gained heavy momentum in the M&A space with its recent acquisition of the cyber firm, Mandiant, for $5.4 billion. Mandiant (Nasdaq:MNDT) is a cybersecurity firm that delivers current intelligence, automation of alert investigation, and validation of security controls through its product offerings. Google also recently purchased a New York based security companies Siemplify for $500M in January. Siemplify develops and operates a threat analysis platform for security analysts.

Among other acquisitions, Minnesota based HelpSystems purchased Oregon based compliance company, Tripwire, for $350M, along with the Houston company Alert Logic, a compliance system company. Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

For all the deals that have closed so far, totals are currently approximately $7.4 billion, already over half of 2021’s total cybersecurity deal amounts of $13.7 billion. Over 130 deals closed over the course of 2021 in this space, respectively.

Quazar was not involved in any of these transactions.
